Foundation
Ramdoot Restores is undertaking the foundation work for the restoration of the Ancient Hanuman Ji Temple in Panch Khobla, Gujarat.
The project includes building a 15-feet deep stone foundation across 2000 sq. ft. using stone, lime mortar, and cement. This work will take 25–35 days and is necessary to construct a strong and durable stone temple.
A proper foundation is essential to ensure the safety, stability, and long-term preservation of this historic temple. This step is the first and most important phase of restoring the temple to its original form.
Project Overview Location
Nestled within the village of Panch Khobla, the temple is surrounded by lush green forests and sits atop a hill, offering stunning views of the natural landscape and a glimpse of one of the revered Shakti Peeths. This serene location serves as a peaceful haven for spiritual reflection and connection with nature.
Significance and Current Condition
The Hanuman Ji Temple is a vital part of our heritage, symbolizing our cultural and spiritual identity. Unfortunately, it has suffered greatly over the centuries, bearing the scars of violent attacks and neglect. The once-majestic structure now stands in urgent need of restoration, with broken idols, damaged sculptures, and a collapsing infrastructure. Despite its deteriorated state, the temple’s architecture hints at its former glory, and we are committed to honoring and preserving its legacy.
Our Mission
Restoring the Hanuman Ji Temple is more than just a project; it is a mission to reclaim our history and revitalize a sacred space. We aim to restore its structural integrity, repair damages, and bring back its historical splendor. This restoration will provide a gathering place for worship and community activities, fostering a deeper connection to our cultural roots.
Historical Background Temple History
Based on engravings found near the temple, it is believed that the Hanuman Ji Temple was constructed in the Shaka year 1372 by Rabiyaswami, the eldest son of the noble Rana from the Takshanya lineage. Designed in the Niagara style, the temple features multiple entry points, indicated by five Keerti Mukhs discovered on site. Its use of sandstone and intricate carvings highlights its artistic and cultural significance.
Architectural Features
The temple showcases the architectural brilliance of its era, with detailed and sophisticated designs. Approximately 80% of the original structure has been found scattered around the vicinity. Although villagers have reassembled a Garbhagraha-type structure, it still requires restoration to align with the original design. The temple’s construction includes interlocking technology for pillars and roofs, demonstrating the advanced engineering of the time. Unfortunately, weathering has taken a toll on the murals and carvings.
Current Condition
The Hanuman Ji Temple currently stands in disrepair, with only the makeshift Garbhagraha providing a semblance of its original form. Previous restoration attempts using cement have proven inadequate due to a lack of funds and expertise. However, local community and authority support is strong, underscoring the importance of this restoration.
Project Goals Restoration Goals
- Structural Repairs: Strengthen and repair the temple’s foundational and structural elements.
- Carvings and Murals: Restore intricate carvings and murals that depict deities, animals, and scenes of historical significance.
